The call for applications for the next online course (15-19 November) “Introduction to Structure from Motion Photography (SFM) “, coordinated by the IT Department of the German Archaeological Institute (DAI) is opened.

The course „Introduction to Structure from Motion Photography (SFM)“ is one of 12 online courses 2021 and will take place between 15-19 November . During the course the participants learn how to use digital techniques of documentation regarding cultural heritage using open source Structure from Motion software. The five-day course provides basic knowledge of structure from motion photography using open source and proprietary software. The students learn how to photograph objects properly to compose them to a scaled and georeferenced 3D model.

The focus groups of the online courses are early-career experts from the MENA region specialized in archeology, architecture, history and other related disciplines. The course is conducted online via Zoom in English accompanied with consecutive Arabic translation, when needed. The application deadline is 3rd of November.

Online courses for on cultural heritage in the MENA region

The new project “Online courses for the MENA region” starts as part of the programme “KulturGutRetter – An emergency mechanism for cultural heritage in crisis situations”, which is currently being developed by the DAI. The project aims at building capacities and an international network of local experts in the MENA region.

The courses of 2021 are coordinated by the IT Department of the German Archaeological Institute and will be held in 12 one-week online courses. During the courses the young professionals learn about basic techniques and applications regarding the digital documentation of cultural heritage.
